Monday night, Cory and I decided to play racquetball after work. When we were finished, we stopped at Big 5 in Layton to buy some wraps for the handles of our rackets.

As we were paying for our stuff, the cashier looked at my shirt (I happened to be wearing a Key West t-shirt) and said "I served my mission there." It took Cory and I both a second to realize what he was talking about. And then we both responded that it was cool that he served there.

And then, as my parting comment, I said "Well, he (and I pointed to Cory) served in Cabo San Lucas."

Cory could not stop laughing at me as we continued walking out to the car. It probably isn't that funny of a story but Cory was definitely laughing and I have no idea what prompted me to say it. :) Oh well . . . . at least I had sort of a snappy comment back to the cashier.

How can you not love this face?

It makes me smile every day when I come home from work . . .

Pumpkin Carving

Cory and I got some pumpkins for Halloween. Please forgive me.

The weekend before Christmas, Cory and I went up to Logan for our annual Marshall family Christmas party. Things have changed a lot this year with my grandparents but it only made us all the more grateful for them and my whole family. Here is a picture of most of my family with each of my grandparents.

Cory and I went to my parents house for Christmas. It was a lot of fun, especially because two of my three brothers and their families were there. We had a lot of fun all week.

Probably my favorite moment of Christmas was giving my parents their Christmas present. This year we gave them a calendar with a collection of pictures from over the years. We had some pictures from us as kids growing up as well as some of the grandchildren and all of us as couples. Each month had a different theme, one for each family, my parents, the grandkids, the holidays. It was a blast to put together and even more fun seeing my parents face when they realized what it was.

The second part of the Christmas present was that we had "borrowed" all of my parents pictures over the years and organized them, scanned them in, and put them in photo albums. It was so much fun to see my parents expressions. Too bad that I didn't get any pictures of their reactions.

I think that my parents really enjoyed their present. It was so much fun looking through all the albums and reminiscing about everything growing up.

A day or two after Christmas, we decided to build up the snow bank in my parent's field next door and go sledding. My dad helped with his 4-wheeler and pushing the snow up to make a long path/tunnel that was easier to sled down. It was a blast! And we definitely didn't want to come home.

Steve's kids got a train table for Christmas. All the employees go all out. We have huge costume contests, cubicle decorating contests and everyone brings there family to trick or treat to all the cubicles. This year, my team decorated our team area as a circus/carnival. This is one of my coworkers who was dressed up as the Human Cannonball.

There was this cute kid that came through dressed as a chicken nugget. I laughed so hard and had to take a picture. Mostly because we tease my niece Madison all the time about how she is going to going to turn into a chicken nugget because that's all she eats. The bucket that the little boy collected his candy in was his "dipping sauce."

Cory and I had to rake a tons of leaves in our front yard before it got too cold and snowed. We decided to take a few hours one night and rake it all up. We were finally finished after 11 1/2 full leaf bags. I wanted to play in them a little bit before we bagged them all up. Although I forgot that you're supposed to pile the leaves up enough so that they cushion you when you jump in them. Oops! I only hurt my knee a little bit.

Then Cory and I decided to go up to my parents house this past weekend since Stephen and Mandy were going. We also haven't been up there in a while so thought that it was time to go visit again.

We had a blast playing on the four wheelers, shooting the paint ball gun, and playing in the leaves. We wanted to take our bikes and go for a short ride while we were there. Since we are trying to save money on gas, we decided to pick up a bike rack for my Honda Civic. Trying to put it on the car became a comedy of errors.

The instructions say that it only takes about 30 minutes to mount on the car. Boy, are they wrong. Cory and I had a little bit of a difficult time getting it on. We were close to getting it all done when we realized that one of the pieces was stripping the screw that we were trying to put in it. So, we had to take the piece back to REI to get it replaced. So, we made a quick trip and they were able to swap it out for us. When we got home and realized that they had forgotten to give us the washer from the new set. So, I had to run back to REI while Cory put another piece of the car rack together. At this point, it was 7:45 and we were planning on leaving by 5:30. It was also getting dark so we knew that we had to hustle.

So, when I got home, we finished putting the bars on the top of the car and when to put the pieces on that actually hold the bikes. Cory was already working on one (what he had been working on when I ran back to the store) so he told me to pull out the other one to put on the car. I opened up the box and pulled it out. I followed the first couple of steps and then realized that I was stuck since I didn't have any tools. I asked Cory where they were and he said that they should be in the box. My first reaction was to ask if he was kidding. After looking around for several minutes to find the missing tools and hardware, we realized that the piece that we had purchased was missing the required pieces.

At this point, it was 9 p.m. and we were 3 1/2 hours late leaving from Salt Lake. So, we just decided to leave without the bikes since REI was closed and there was no way that we were going to get the replacement box that night.

As we were driving to grab some dinner, we heard something roll off my car from where we have been mounting the bike rack. So, we pulled over to see what had fallen off. One small piece hadn't been screwed on tight enough and had ended up coming loose and rolling off. Since we were on a side street when we heard it, a car had just happened to drive over it. The piece was slightly broken but still usable.

So, we took off to Logan. The weekend was still definitely worth it even without the bikes. My parents ended up buying a badminton set and it was a blast! I don't know how many times I was hit in the head with a birdie from my dad.

The weekend was really relaxing and a lot of fun. Cory and I were also able to make dutch oven ribs and potatoes for my parents and Jon & Liz. They all seemed to enjoy it a lot.

Here are a few pictures from the trip.

Nursery Leaders

Right before Cory and I left to go to Hawaii, a member of the Bishopric stopped us after Sacrament meeting and said that he wanted to extend a calling to us. . . . to be the Nursery Leaders in the ward. Cory and I were both somewhat stunned and couldn't respond for a minute. Although I wish I had camera at that point because Cory's face was priceless.

After the initial shock was over and Cory could close his mouth again, we accepted the calling.

I have to admit that it is tougher than I originally thought it would be. Having 8 18-month-olds crawling all over you and demanding your 100% attention is somewhat draining. It is a little fun though and it's especially fun to see Cory interact with the kids.

Bad Habits

So as most of my close friends and family know, I have a very bad habit of being addicted to Diet Coke. It's something that I have done since I was a teenager and haven't been able to kick the habit . . . until now.

I am very proud to say that I have officially gone a whole week without drinking a single drop of Diet Coke.

I have tried to stop drinking it several times over the years but have never been strong enough. All that I really needed was a good enough reason to stop.

Last week, I ended up in the emergency room due to some kidney stones. I can honestly say that I have never been in that much pain in my life. And I definitely wouldn't wish that on anyone. One of the things that the doctor told me was that I really needed to stop drinking soda as that is probably the primary reason that I got the kidney stones. So, after a few really bad caffeine headaches, I think I am on my way there.

Wahoo!!

I've Been . . .

Tagged
 My friend Angie tagged me

A. So, we thought we'd give a little update on how our trip went.

We were in Hawaii from Thursday, July 24th through Tuesday, July 29th. It was a blast and much needed! We are both feeling really relaxed now. The one downfall to going to Hawaii in July is how hot it is . . . YIKES!!

Below I have included some fun pictures. I tried to give a daily recap of what we did as well. I hope you enjoy.

Friday - Polynesian Cultural Center
Cory and I decided to go to the PCC since he has never been there before. The PCC is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of Polynesia while providing scholarships for hundreds of Polynesian students attending BYU-Hawaii.

It gives you a pretty good feel of what the different cultures are like of different islands in Polynesia, including Tonga, Tahiti, Fiji, New Zealand, and Samoa. They have different activities around each of the islands that you can participate in. Here are just some of the pictures from that day.

The sign at the entrance to the PCC.Cory & I standing in front of one of the many waterfalls.Tonga performing in the Canoe Pageant. I couldn't resist.

Also on Friday before we went to the PCC, we found the Hukilau Cafe and decided to eat there. It's a little different than the Hukilau Cafe in "50 First Dates" but it was still fun anyway. This is one place that I didn't get to visit on my last two trips to Hawaii so I was pretty excited to go. Cory was just plain excited to go snorkeling.

We did end up getting a little sunburned while we were here. Cory got it a little worse than I did since I had gotten a good base tan before we went (I learned my lesson one of the last times I was in Hawaii . . . I'll never go to the beach again without sunscreen).

The view out over Hanauma Bay from our beach towels. The palm tree we were sitting next to on the beach.

There aren't really any bad views on any beach in Hawaii

Look closely at this picture to see if you can find the crab. . . .

We saw a great sea turtle

Some of the many fish that we saw while snorkeling

Cory & I in our snorkeling gear in Hanauma Bay

Sunday - USS Arizona Memorial (Pearl Harbor)

Cory and I decided to go to the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl City. Parking at our Hotel: We stayed at a hotel off Waikiki beach in Honolulu. However, because the number of people that were staying there, there were a limited number of parking spots. So . . . . we ended up having to park at one of their sister hotels about 6 blocks away. It made for a good walk every morning and night.

2. When we picked up our rental car at the airport, they gave us a car that someone had smoked in before. It made Cory and I so sick after the first day that we took it back and asked for another car. Because we had a problem with the first car, they upgraded us to a red Mustang convertible for the same price. It was great to have a convertible all week long. Here are a couple of pics.

3. On the walk to the car every morning, we passed a really funny sign. I don't really think that any other explanation is needed . . .
4. Another random thing was that the room that we stayed in at our hotel was the only room on our floor that didn't have a balcony. Apparently on each floor, there is only one room that doesn't have one . . . and we got it on our floor. It was funny because when we looked at that hotel, it was cheap but we could still get a balcony . . . and then we didn't end up getting one.

Family Reunion

The weekend of July 12th, Cory and I had the opportunity to go to the Stephenson Family Reunion. This was my mom's brothers and sisters and all of their kids. It was held at my grandparents' cabin up Logan Canyon. Our last Stephenson family reunion was in 1989 . . . it's been a while. Now, most of us are married and have kids.

Overall, it was a blast! It was so great to see all of my cousins again. We played a lot of games, went on several walks, played on the big swing, and ate some great food. Below are some pictures from our adventures.

The Giant Swing
My grandparents have a giant swing next to the cabin. It can be a little scary at first but it is a blast. It was a rule at the reunion that everyone had to take a turn, even my grandparents.

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; We were able to go to Logan to spend time with my family. We had some good times including floating down the river, watching some fireworks, going for a walk in the canyon, and even playing kickball.

Here are some fun pics of the family at the fireworks on Thursday night. I will try to post more pictures later but I don't have any others on my camera.

Hawaii . . . here we come!

Cory and I decided the other day that we needed a break from everything (especially our jobs) so we booked a trip to HAWAII.

We are going July 24th through July 29th. Here are some pictures of our house from the outside along with a funny story. I will be posting more pics of the inside soon.

Last week, Cory & I were trying to be proactive in getting our house pictures up on the blog. One night after work, we decided to run outside really quick to take some pictures. We walked out the front down and closed the door behind us. As Cory shut the door, I asked him to make sure that it wasn't locked. He checked and . . . sure enough, it was. We didn't think it would be a problem because you usually have to lock the door with the two deadbolts.

We had just barely locked the back door as well since we didn't think we'd be going anywhere that night. So, we were officially locked out. Luckily, we have people that live in an apartment below us so we could just call our landlord to come unlock the door. I ran down there really quick and asked it we could borrow their phone (yes, we were standing outside with no shoes and no cell phones).

I knocked on the door to the neighbors house and asked them to use the phone to call the landlord. Our neighbor's first question was, "Aren't the landlords out of town?" Cory and I had completely forgotten that the landlords were out of town and would be for another week. Luckily, they had left the name of their son to contact in cases of emergency.

We ended up sitting outside for over an hour before the landlord's son came and unlocked the doors for us. Needless to say, we are very careful whenever we go outside for a minute now.

The front of the house.

We have a cute barbecue/patio area out back along with a big lawn.

Cory sitting out front of the house waiting to get the house unlocked.

Husband Tag

1. After living in this apartment complex for over a year (Cory has now lived here for three years), we decided to move out. WAHOO!!

We were able to find a little house in the Sugar House area that we will be renting. It has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a garage, a good-sized yard, and washer/dryer hookups (which is definitely our favorite part). We also like the fact that we don't have to walk 1/4 mile from the parking lot to our apartment (this is not a joke at all). We get to park right behind the house.

Anyway, we signed the lease about two weeks ago and were so excited that we went home and packed up half the apartment. :) I can't tell who is more excited, me or Cory.

I will be sending out the address soon (probably once we actually move in).

California Trip

Cory and I just celebrated our 1 year anniversary. We spent about a week in Logan and then went up to Idaho for 3 days. We had a nice, quiet (for the most part) Christmas. Cory gave me diamond earrings and necklace as well as an MP3 player while Cory got a TomTom navigation system.

We also went sledding with my neice and nephew, Trevor and Madison. It was a blast, especially when Stephen knocked over Trevor as he came down the hill. Trevor was trying to kick the tube and instead ended up flat on his back after his legs flew out from under him when Stephen hit him. It was hilarious.

My brother Stephen also got another Yorkie puppy a few months ago. We had a lot of fun playing with her this week and I got some great pictures of her (below). She loved sleeping in the shoes, attacking Stephen (pretending to be a little bear on her hind feet), and just being super cute.

Another highlight was my nephew Tate. He was pretty entertaining the whole week, especially when he decided to make "motor" noises for about 20 minutes. Here is a short clip of him entertaining us (not the whole 20 minutes, I promise).

He also knows when there is a camera around and posed for this really cute picture when he saw me coming.

Our First Christmas Tree

As I mentioned earlier, we put up our Christmas tree a couple of weeks ago. We're not sure exactly what we'll talk about but thought that we'd give it a try.

Cory and I put up our Christmas tree last weekend. We are really excited to celebrate Christmas together this year in our own apartment. There are even presents under the tree already. :)

This has been a great year for Cory and I. We were married in March and then went on a honeymoon to the Bahamas. It was a blast. We have also been on several other small trips this year. We went on a camping trip to Red Canyon in southern Utah with Cory's sister and her family. Cory also took me to Jackson Hole in August for my birthday. We have also been on several trips to Logan and to Pocatello to see family.

We are both also keeping very busy with work and just getting settled in our apartment. We live in an apartment in Salt Lake City. We are hopefully going to be looking for a house soon since we don't really enjoy living in the apartment very much.

We will add more later but just wanted to get started.
